5G for 12 GHz Coalition Statement on Senate Commerce Committee’s Vote on Rosenworcel’s Nomination for Full Senate Consideration
WASHINGTON, D.C., December 1st – The Coalition is pleased that the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee voted on a bipartisan basis to send Jessica Rosenworcel’s nomination to the full Senate for consideration and confirmation. Having a permanent chair at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is essential to advancing policies that ensure 5G global leadership, close the digital divide, maximize America’s spectrum resources for consumer benefits, and spur competition.
As we have seen through recent auctions, the demand for mid-band spectrum is only increasing, and the FCC will need to act quickly on proceedings like opening up the 12 GHz band for 5G to help free up more of these key resources for U.S. leadership over competitors like China, for expanded broadband in rural, urban and tribal communities, and for greater innovation that leads to lower costs and more choices for the American people.
We are confident that Rosenworcel has the right expertise and experience to lead the FCC at this critical time and bring our spectrum policies in line with modern realities and the demands of today. The Coalition encourages the Senate to confirm her without delay and looks forward to continuing to work with her on these important issues.
