FCC Chairwoman Rosenworcel seeks NOI to open 12.7-13.25 GHz band for 5G
WASHINGTON, D.C., September 19th – Today, FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel announced she will seek a NOI to potentially open the 12.7-13.25 GHz band for 5G, which could unleash an additional 550 MHz of critical mid-band spectrum for 5G use.
The 5G for 12 GHz Coalition agrees with the Chairwoman for recognizing the qualities of the 12 GHz band that make it well suited for 5G. The 5G for 12 GHz Coalition stands ready to work with the FCC to deploy the adjacent 12.2-12.7 GHz band for terrestrial 5G, which consists of 500 MHz of spectrum with superior propagation characteristics that is ready to be put to use today. Unleashing the power of 12.2-12.7 for 5G can propel America to the top in the 5G race and spur innovation for next-generation tools that we rely on daily, further helping us close the digital divide.
We urge the FCC to continue forward with the 12.2-12.7 GHz rulemaking so we can take advantage of the band’s many consumer, geopolitical, and economic benefits today.
