5G for 12 GHz Coalition Commends Administration for FCC Permanent Chair, Commissioner Nominations
WASHINGTON, D.C., October 26th – The Coalition commends the Administration for taking action to designate Jessica Rosenworcel as the first woman to serve as permanent chair of the FCC and to fill the open seat by nominating Gigi Sohn to serve as Commissioner, and we congratulate both of these well-deserving nominees. As acting Chair, Jessica has demonstrated her leadership at the helm of the agency and her deep knowledge of the issues. We look forward to continuing to work with her, as well as new Commissioner Sohn and the full Commission and their tremendous staff, once confirmed.
This is a pivotal time for the Commission, as it seeks to advance policies that ensure 5G global leadership, close the digital divide, maximize America’s spectrum resources for consumer benefits, and spur competition. These are all objectives that the Coalition supports and that can be readily achieved through unlocking the 500 MHz of 12 GHz spectrum for two-way terrestrial and 5G mobile uses. We are confident that now with a full complement of Commissioners, this rulemaking – with its robust record supporting it – can finally move forward expeditiously.
We urge the Senate to take up these nominations and move quickly to restore the FCC to full capacity so that the Commission can continue its important work on open proceedings, like moving forward with the rulemaking to expand the 12 GHz spectrum band for 5G.
